Islamabad, Jan 20: The Punjab Government has introduced a comprehensive policy for hiring School Teaching Interns (STIs) to address the teacher shortage in government schools across the province. Under this initiative, 12,500 STIs will be recruited to fill temporary teaching positions until permanent appointments are made. These interns will exclusively focus on academic duties and will not be involved in managing afternoon schools or administrative responsibilities.

This recruitment drive follows the successful model used for hiring College Teaching Interns (CTIs) in public colleges. The monthly stipend for School Teaching Interns ranges between Rs. 38,000 and Rs. 45,000, depending on the level of teaching. The recruitment process will commence shortly, and interested candidates are encouraged to prepare their applications.

Key Features of the STI Policy:

  1. Temporary Hiring: The positions are strictly temporary and will remain active until permanent teachers are appointed. Interns will not have the option to transfer or transition into permanent roles.
  2. Eligibility Criteria:
    • For primary school teaching positions, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree along with a professional teaching qualification.
    • For middle, high, and higher secondary levels, a master’s degree and a professional teaching degree are required.
  3. Stipend Details:
    • Primary school interns: Rs. 38,000/month
    • Middle school interns: Rs. 40,000/month
    • High and higher secondary school interns: Rs. 45,000/month
  4. Merit-Based Selection:
    • Candidates will be selected based on their academic qualifications.
    • Only five marks will be allocated for the interview process to ensure a fair and transparent evaluation system.

To ensure transparency, the merit lists will be displayed at the offices of the Deputy District Education Officer (DEO), on school notice boards, and through a dedicated online portal. Candidates will need to apply within their respective districts using this special portal.

Upon completing their internship, STIs will receive certificates to recognize their contributions. The hiring process will involve approval from the Deputy DEO, Assistant Education Officer (AEO), school heads, and school councils.

This initiative aims to provide a structured solution to the temporary teacher shortage while maintaining high educational standards in government schools across Punjab.
