Islamabad, 12 April 2025: Quetta Gladiators moved to the top of the PSLX points table after thrashing Peshawar Zalmi by 80 runs in Rawalpindi.

Set a mammoth target of 217, the Babar Azam-led Zalmi faltered with the bat and were bundled out for just 136 in 13.3 overs.

Despite the return of Saim Ayub, who fought hard with a fifty, the batting order collapsed under sustained pressure from bowling attack of Quetta.

The troubles began right away as captain Babar Azam departed without scoring in the first over, edging a soft dismissal to Mohammad Amir.

Though Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris tried to stabilize the innings, Abrar Ahmed disrupted their plans in the fourth over.

The mystery spinner struck twice, removing the wicket-keeper batter for 13 and Tom Kohler-Cadmore for a golden duck.

Saim Ayub and Hussain Talat added 60 runs to revive some hope for the former champions.

However, Usman Tariq dismissed Talat for 35 and sent Max Bryant back on the final ball of the 11th over, deepening the woes for Peshawar.

Ayub, who notched up his eighth PSL fifty, was eventually removed by Kyle Jamieson, triggering another collapse.

By the 12th over, Zalmi were struggling at 103-6 before Quetta’s bowlers, led by Abrar’s four-for and Amir’s final strike, wrapped up the innings to seal a dominant win.

Earlier, debutant Finn Allen’s quickfire 53 and a strong start with skipper Saud Shakeel powered Quetta to 67 in the powerplay.

The captain played a steady hand with 59 runs, while Hasan Nawaz added 41.

Late fireworks from Rossouw and Mendis, who struck 35 off 14, lifted Quetta to a commanding 216 — a total far beyond Zalmi’s reach.
