Islamabad, Nov 21: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has temporarily suspended the approval of new private housing schemes in Rawalpindi Tehsil until its master plan is finalized.

During a press conference at the Rawalpindi Press Club, RDA Director General Kanza Murtaza revealed that a detailed list of illegal housing schemes has been compiled after five months of thorough efforts.

To safeguard investor rights affected by these unauthorized projects, the RDA has established dedicated forums.

Murtaza stated that the RDA is formulating policies to curb illegal constructions at the outset, eliminating the challenges of later regularization.

She warned of stringent measures against RDA employees involved in facilitating unlawful projects. She also assured that a housing project backed by Chinese investors is being developed with a focus on security.

While recognizing the housing sector’s contribution to economic growth, Murtaza emphasized the need to protect agricultural land.

The ban on new scheme approvals will continue until the master plan is completed, aligning with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
