Islamabad, Jan 30: Renee Zellweger, alongside her Bridget Jones co-stars, attended the highly anticipated world premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy in London on Wednesday, reminiscing about her iconic role as the lovable and relatable Bridget Jones.

Over two decades after Bridget Jones’s Diary hit the big screen, the fourth installment of the beloved series explores Bridget’s life as a single mother of two after the death of her husband, Mark Darcy. Zellweger reflected on how the character has evolved and how she feels like “an old friend” to her, a sentiment that resonates with audiences around the world.

In this latest film, Bridget’s life is full of juggling parenting, her career, reconnecting with friends, and navigating the world of dating once again. Zellweger highlighted that it’s Bridget’s vulnerability that has kept her character so relatable and enduring over the years. “I think a lot of people relate to the challenges that she finds her way through, her vulnerability,” Zellweger said on the red carpet.

The movie is based on Helen Fielding’s book series, which began with the London-set Bridget Jones’s Diary in 1996. Bridget’s diary entries, detailing everything from her weight to her romantic entanglements, struck a chord with audiences. The book’s success spawned three more novels and several film adaptations, including Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016).

In the new film, Bridget, now 51 years old, decides to enter the dating world once again and ends up meeting a 29-year-old named Roxster, played by Leo Woodall. Woodall spoke of the pressure he felt before meeting Zellweger, but praised her warmth and generosity, saying it made the process enjoyable and easy-going.

The film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays one of Bridget’s children’s teachers. Known for his roles in 12 Years a Slave and Children of Men, Ejiofor shared how joining the Bridget Jones franchise was a natural choice, describing it as “the easiest yes.”

Director Michael Morris hinted that more Bridget adventures could be in store but emphasized that it ultimately depends on the vision of writer Helen Fielding. The movie, released by Universal Pictures, will begin its global rollout on February 12. As Bridget navigates love and life, fans are eagerly awaiting to see if this truly is the final chapter for the beloved character.
