Islamabad, Mar 13, 2025: Quetta Gladiators have appointed Sarfaraz Ahmed as their team director ahead of the 10th edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), set to begin on April 11.

The decision marks a new chapter for the former Pakistan captain, who was previously released by the franchise and went unpicked in the recent player draft.

Speculation had initially suggested that Sarfaraz might replace former Australian cricketer Shane Watson, who withdrew from the role due to scheduling conflicts.

However, the wicketkeeper-batter, who led Quetta Gladiators to the championship title in 2019, has now been brought on board in a managerial capacity.

The announcement of  the Karachi-born cricketer as a director was made by franchise owner Nadeem Omer during a sponsor signing ceremony.

Omer expressed confidence in the decision, stating that Sarfaraz had led Quetta Gladiators effectively as captain and was expected to bring the same leadership qualities to his new role.

He also highlighted that the combination of Sarfaraz as team director and Moin Khan as head coach could yield positive results for the Quetta Gladiators.

Sarfaraz’s association with Quetta Gladiators dates back to the league’s inception in 2016. Under his leadership, the team secured its first and only PSL title in 2019.

Over the years, he became a key figure for the franchise, playing 86 matches and amassing 1,525 runs at an average of 29.32, including seven half-centuries.

His tenure as captain, however, came to an end during the 2023 season when South African batter Rilee Rossouw took over the leadership duties.

Despite this change, Sarfaraz’s return to the franchise in a managerial capacity ensures his continued involvement with the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
