Islamabad, Aug 18: The Sindh Cabinet approved a grant-in-aid of PKR 10.065 billion for the construction of 80-square-yard houses for 6,932 people who were forced to flee their homes after Gujjar, Orangi, and Mahmoodabad nullah homes were demolished.
According to specifics, the Malir Development Authority has granted 258 acres of land in Taiser Town Scheme 45 for the development of the housing project. Provincial ministers were present at the Thursday cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. It was mandated that the local government department submit the updated PC-1, which will cost Rs4.62 billion, for the area’s internal development. The plan calls for building vital infrastructure, including stormwater drainage systems, roadways, water supplies, and sewers, a mosque and a power source.
According to estimates from the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), each house will cost PKR 1.45 million. The affected parties will receive payments in three stages: PKR 500,000 at the start of work, PKR 500,000 after the masonry up to the roof is finished, and PKR 450,000 to finish the grey structure. As directed by the Supreme Court, the focal person will verify and produce the final beneficiary list; the cabinet has granted preliminary approval for this tentative amount.
