Islamabad, Aug 31: Digital nomads encounter animosity from residents carrying water pistols in Barcelona, but other regions of Spain welcome remote laborers. The municipal government of Extremadura is willing to pay up to €15,000 to digital nomads who relocate to the rural area. This award pays for land, housing, and other necessities.

Extremadura, which is close to Portugal, is well-known for its beautiful scenery, reasonably priced housing, and robust internet access. But some nomads find it difficult to live there for the required two years in order to be eligible for the stipend. In addition to maybe lacking excitement, the area can get very hot in the summer.

A total of 200 nomads will be supported by the €2 million program; those under 30 or relocating to villages with fewer than 5,000 residents will receive €10,000, while others will receive €8,000. All nationalities eligible to live and work in Spain are eligible for the grants, with EU nationals having an easier time applying; non-EU citizens can apply for Spain’s digital nomad visa; applications open in September and will be accepted until the €2 million is allotted; to apply, you must provide proof of remote income as well as a digital certificate or electronic Spanish ID. You must not have resided in Extremadura in the previous six months. Those who are selected will be notified within three months.
