Islamabad, Feb 14: The federal government has announced a plan to provide sugar at a controlled price of Rs 130 per kilogram during Ramazan, ensuring affordability for consumers across the country. Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, made the announcement while chairing a Sugar Advisory Board meeting on Saturday to finalize sugar prices for the holy month.

According to a news release, sugar mills nationwide will set up dedicated stalls to sell sugar in small packages of 1-2 kg, with each CNIC holder allowed to purchase up to 5 kg. These stalls will become operational three days before Ramazan and continue until the 27th of the month, ensuring a stable supply for consumers throughout the fasting period.

The minister underscored the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted supply chain and directed authorities to efficiently manage the distribution process. He stressed the need for close coordination between the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA), district administrations, and cane commissioners to prevent mismanagement and long queues, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free purchasing experience for the public.

To enhance accessibility, Tanveer recommended increasing the number of sugar stalls and establishing them at the municipal committee level across districts. This move aims to expand reach and prevent overcrowding at select locations.

Assuring strict oversight, the minister stated that he, along with the chief secretaries, would personally monitor the process to ensure its successful implementation. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to stabilizing sugar prices and facilitating the public during Ramazan, a time when demand for essential commodities traditionally rises.
