Islamabad, Feb 23: Virat Kohli has once again rewritten the record books, becoming the fastest player to reach 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during India’s high-stakes Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan in Dubai. The milestone was achieved in the 13th over when Kohli stylishly drove Haris Rauf for a four, surpassing the previous record held by Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Batting at No. 3 after the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma, Kohli exhibited his trademark composure and dominance, settling in quickly to take control of the innings. With Shubman Gill already putting Pakistan’s bowling attack under immense pressure, Kohli seamlessly joined the assault, showcasing his impeccable timing and shot selection.
His latest feat only reinforces his status as one of the greatest limited-overs batters in cricket history, known for his consistency, technique, and ability to deliver in pressure situations especially against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Since making his ODI debut in 2008, Kohli has been a pillar of India’s batting lineup, excelling across conditions and against all opposition. His ability to anchor chases, accelerate when required, and absorb pressure has made him a modern-day batting giant.
Achieving the 14,000-run mark in just 287 innings and 299 matches, Kohli shattered Tendulkar’s record, who took 350 innings and 359 matches to achieve the same milestone. The Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara stands third on the list, having reached the landmark in 378 innings over 402 matches.
With this record-breaking achievement, Kohli has further strengthened India’s charge towards the Champions Trophy semifinals while pushing Pakistan to the brink of elimination. At just 36, the former Indian captain shows no signs of slowing down and seems well on track to rewrite more ODI records in the years to come.
