Islamabad, Apr 14, 2025: The government of Pakistan, under the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has made a significant move to meet the long-awaited demand of the country’s expatriates by kickstarting plans for the construction of an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
This decision comes after a formal request from British Members of Parliament with Kashmiri heritage, urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to back the project.
In response, the Islamabad Airports Authority has released a public notice inviting consultancy firms to submit proposals for the tendering process.
The objective is to ensure that qualified consultants can participate in the project as per the established guidelines.
Concurrently, the first-ever Overseas Pakistanis Convention is underway in Islamabad, marking a major milestone in acknowledging the financial contributions of overseas Pakistanis.
The government has granted attendees the status of state guests, underscoring the significance of the event.

This convention provides a platform for overseas Pakistanis, government officials, and national institutions to address pressing issues.
Numerous government agencies have established information desks at the venue to offer full support and assistance.
Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, emphasized the government’s dedication to resolving the issues of overseas Pakistanis and encouraged their active participation in the discussions at the convention.

Kashmir Airports: Azad Kashmir currently has two inactive airports located in Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot, both of which have ceased operations due to insufficient passenger traffic.
