Islamabad, 24 Apr, 2025: The Faizabad Interchange, a vital junction linking Islamabad and Rawalpindi, is set for a significant overhaul as part of a broad infrastructure enhancement plan approved by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The project is aimed at improving traffic circulation and public convenience across the federal capital.
During a high-level session convened at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters on Wednesday, senior federal and municipal officials reviewed and sanctioned a series of transformative city development initiatives.
At the heart of the initiative is the expansion and modernization of the Faizabad Interchange, where two additional lanes will be constructed and existing roadways widened.

The redesign is expected to ease persistent traffic congestion and offer commuters a more seamless travel experience through one of the busiest cross-city connectors.
In addition to the interchange upgrade, authorities gave the go-ahead for a 2+2 lane underpass at Faisal Chowk another known bottleneck in the capital’s transport grid.
Minister Naqvi instructed that the design and execution of this project reflect the city’s long-term growth and anticipated increase in traffic volume.
Another key focus of the meeting was parking infrastructure. Minister Naqvi called for the immediate opening of a newly completed multi-storey parking facility in Blue Area, aiming to address longstanding space shortages in Islamabad’s commercial zone.
He also urged the CDA to develop a forward-looking business model for the adjoining food street and the parking complex, ensuring both projects serve public needs sustainably.
Further plans were laid out to identify strategic locations throughout the city for the construction of additional parking structures. The goal is to prevent future congestion and support a well-organized urban layout.

Officials also introduced a vision for the upcoming Blue Area Food Street, which will feature walking paths, food outlets, dedicated parking, and recreational zones.
The area is intended to blend commerce with community, offering an engaging space for both residents and visitors.
The new parking plaza will include retail units, a rooftop eatery, cinema, children’s play zone, and other entertainment venues, converting it into a multi-use city hub.
Present at the meeting were State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Islamabad’s police chief, and various senior administrative personnel.
The approved developments are poised to reshape the capital’s landscape, with the Faizabad Interchange redevelopment anchoring a broader strategy for smarter, future-ready urban planning.
