Islamabad, Dec 30: Meta is enhancing the use of artificial intelligence across its platforms, with Instagram set to introduce new AI video editing features. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has revealed these upcoming tools, which will allow users to apply automated edits to their videos, such as changing backgrounds, altering outfits, and even creating whimsical Muppet-style versions of themselves.

These features, powered by Meta’s Movie Gen engine, aim to expand creative possibilities. While they offer exciting potential for visual storytelling, some critics argue that AI-generated elements might compromise the platform’s authentic, social nature. “These tools could spark new creative trends,” Mosseri commented, “but it’s crucial to maintain a focus on genuine storytelling.”

The technology enables users to enhance their content with visual effects, encouraging compelling narratives. However, some skeptics feel that AI-generated images, such as an artificial beach scene, cannot replace the authenticity of real-life photos taken during actual travels.

Meta’s move reflects a growing debate between technological innovation and the core purpose of social media as a space for genuine human connection. As AI-generated content becomes more common, questions arise about its effect on the authenticity of shared online experiences.

Although these new tools offer potential for innovation, their lasting value may depend on how well they serve storytelling and communication. Without a clear narrative purpose, they risk becoming temporary distractions rather than meaningful contributions to the platform.

Mosseri’s vision for Instagram suggests that success will lie in finding a balance between creativity and connection, ensuring that AI tools enhance the user experience while preserving the true essence of social media.
