Islamabad, Dec 23: Karachi residents, who have been enduring water shortages for weeks, can now expect relief as the main pipeline on University Road is ready to resume water supply after completing repairs, according to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).

The KWSC spokesperson confirmed that the repair work on the 84-inch water pipeline, which runs across the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project on University Road, has been finished after the pipeline suffered three consecutive leaks.

The water corporation announced that 12 pumps are now back in operation, restoring water supply to the areas surrounding University Road. Additionally, the supply from the Dhabeji Pumping Station has also been restored. The pipeline initially burst on November 29 during the ongoing construction of the BRT Red Line project, and subsequent leaks led to the shutdown of several Dhabeji pumps for repair.

These leaks caused a significant loss of water and disrupted supply to several areas, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Mosmiyat, Safoora, parts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Bahadurabad, Tariq Road, Jamshed Road, New MA Jinnah Road, Ramaswamy, Ranchor Lane, Garden, Lyari, Saddar, and the Lines Area.

As a result of the pipeline burst, Karachi faced a water shortage of 150 million gallons per day, despite multiple attempts to fix the issue.
