Islamabad, Sep 21: In order to improve security, Karachi has formally launched the first phase of its Safe City Project, which involves placing 25 surveillance cameras in five strategic places. The Central Police Office (CPO) Command and Control Center continuously monitors live footage as part of the project, which is managed by the Sindh Safe Cities Authority.
The Sindh Safe Cities Authority’s Director General, Asif Ijaz Sheikh, reports that 43 poles have been put throughout the city thus far. The purpose of the monitoring system is to help law enforcement reduce crime and enhance public safety.
In order to assist police in keeping an eye on suspicious activity and acting swiftly, the live footage will be shown in real time at the S4 Control Room at the CPO. Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, the home minister of Sindh, officially launched the Safe City Project earlier this year. It is estimated that the project is worth about Rs. 3 billion.
He mentioned that Karachi will become one of Pakistan’s safest cities as a result of the effort. The project will be finished in two stages, the first of which should be finished in the upcoming year. The project is expected to drastically lower crime in the entire city, according to the Sindh government. This surveillance system will be extended to other Sindhi cities in phase two.
