Islamabad, Nov 17: OpenAI Faces Legal Challenge, Elon Musk Sues Over Alleged Monopoly Attempts. Opening another front in a very bitter battle with his new competitor, Elon Musk has accused OpenAI of antitrust problems with one of its main backers, Microsoft.

Allegations Against OpenAI and Microsoft

In his recent updates to the lawsuit, Musk accused both OpenAI and Microsoft of monopoly, in particular restraining competition in the AI sector. The platform claims that OpenAI has turned from a research company without ambitions to generate profit into an organization most valued at $157 billion. Microsoft has also been receiving criticism for its $14 billion investment and exclusive licensing rights because of its ability to enhance anti-competitive practices.

A list of the conduct’s alleged anti-competitive actions has also been created. Cohen’s lawsuit alleges that OpenAI and Microsoft exposed proprietary information and urged people not to invest in other competitors such as Musk’s xAI.

Involvement of Key Figures

The new filing also names LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman as defendants due to “rampant self-dealing.” Several new parties have joined the lawsuit: Shivon Zilis of OpenAI and Neuralink, as well as Musk’s xAI.

Historical Disputes:

Musk helped launch OpenAI in December 2015, but he resigned from the company’s board in 2018 because of a conflict of interest. He had earlier sued OpenAI in March 2024 for alleged breach of its founding mission to use artificial intelligence in benefiting humankind. After OpenAI made public the internal correspondence disputing Musk’s assertions that he was involved in the founding of the company, that case was dropped.

Legal and Industry Consideration:

It showed that Musk is suing against the AI industry, recent trends within the field reveal animosity. As Microsoft and OpenAI continue to get billions of dollars in investment, competitors like xAI are starting to emerge. It could have implications on future laws in one of the many burgeoning industries in technology artificial intelligence.

This legal fight demonstrates Musk’s determination toward the monopolistic look that he observes exists in the AI market.
