Islamabad, Nov 7: Windows 11 Update Expands Compatibility for Software and Apps on ARM PCs. A recent Windows 11 preview build brings notable enhancements for Arm-based PCs. Build 27744 includes an updated Prism emulator that now supports additional CPU extensions like AVX, AVX2, BMI, FMA, and F16C.

This advancement enables Arm devices, such as those using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus SoCs, to execute previously incompatible x86 applications and games, including resource-intensive titles like Starfield and Helldivers 2, along with professional video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro 2025.

The update also features a user-friendly on-screen gamepad keyboard, facilitating easier navigation and typing on gaming handhelds and touch-enabled devices. This improved compatibility addresses a significant issue for Windows on Arm, broadening its software and gaming landscape.

Among other updates in the changelog are minor bug fixes for various issues, the capability to detach hard disks through the Settings app, enhancements to the Task Manager, and more.Windows on ARM devices have faced ongoing challenges in gaining popularity, primarily due to a persistent compatibility issue.

Since their debut, these devices, which offer longer battery life and consistent connectivity, have been limited by their inability to smoothly run the extensive range of x86 applications made for conventional Windows PCs.

Nonetheless, recent advancements provide a hopeful outlook for a more compatible future, potentially unlocking the full capabilities of Windows on ARM. While obstacles still exist, these updates signify a vital move towards greater software compatibility and increased use of Arm-based Windows devices. As Microsoft keeps improving its emulation technology, the outlook for Windows on ARM appears to be increasingly optimistic.
